Personalized Learning That Works.
Step 1: We get to know you.
When you first meet with a Back to the Basics Learning tutor (after scheduling and appointment and arriving at the agreed upon meeting place), he or she will take time to get to know you and your learning style. Your personal tutor will take time to administer a brief learning inventory to determine how you learn best. Our learning profile is based on Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences and other proven learning profile techniques. We use a free, paper-and-pencil learning survey when meeting learners for the first time. Click here to view the learning survey we administer. A special thanks to Laura Candler at www.lauracandler.com. for access to her free, online learning resources!
Step 2: We determine your needs.Next, we discuss with you what your learning needs are by creating a complete learning profile. We will ask questions to determine your grade or education level, educational goals, type of assignment or study material, subject area, and topics. Step 3: We help you grow. Then, we match your learning style and needs with research-based and time-honored traditional and creative teaching and learning techniques that we believe best fit your unique situation. These techniques include, two-column notes, guided reading, skill practice, modeling, question generation, and more! We use a series of best teaching practices to make sure that you are successful with the skills you are learning and the goals you have set.
|
Step 4: We get your feedback. Finally, at the end of each session, we ask for your feedback on our performance to gauge your growth and understanding of the material you need help with learning. We use this information to provide you with additional help, and to strengthen our practices for the future. Click here to view a copy of the feedback form we have each learner complete at the end of each tutoring session.
